The 2025 Nunavik Mining Workshop will be held from April 1 to 3 at the Kattitavik Town Hall in Kuujjuaq.
Thursday April 3, 2025 11:30am - 12:00pm EDT
The presentation will provide an overview of GEM-GeoNorth, a flagship Program of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). GEM-GeoNorth has received $100M funding for seven years (2020-2027) to meet new priorities and demands for innovative geoscientific research in northern Canada, including Nunavik and Nunatsiavut, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities facing economic development in the North. The Program produces and provides new public geoscientific data, knowledge, and maps that support land-use decisions, exploration for natural resources and environmental assessments. GEM-GeoNorth enhances the understanding of rapidly changing landscapes and coasts to support economic development via critical infrastructure.
Outside GEM-GeoNorth, there are other programs of the GSC with activities in Nunavik or Nunatsiavut. The presentation will show where the projects are taking place and provide a short description of the programs and the research being conducted in the region.
